Therapy Didn’t Work For Me...Now What?

Do you find yourself Googling oddly specific phrases? “Therapy for people who don’t need therapy.” “I don’t want to pay someone hundreds just to see them once a week for an hour.” “Therapists didn’t really help me.” “My problems aren’t big enough for therapy, but I don’t know where else to go.”

Hey, we’ve been there — and that’s why we’re writing this blog. If you’re a well-adjusted person for whom therapy didn’t work but still want help navigating everyday life issues, you’ve come to the right place. We’re going to talk about how journaling with a certified responder can help you get the answers you need without getting involved with therapy.

What journaling with a responder is — and isn’t

Here’s what journaling with a responder is: think of it as a two-way diary where you answer prompts and get feedback on your life as a result. You’re paired with a certified responder who asks the right questions and critically assesses your approach to the issues you’re dealing with. They inspire you to think innovatively and approach your problems in new, thoughtful ways. They help you uncover and remove barriers that are preventing you from achieving what you want in life.

Journaling with a certified responder is a life-hack most people don’t know about. It’s a secret bonus that can improve virtually any aspect of your life. It’s flexible, works on your time, is customizable depending on your needs, and you can use it as much or as little as you want.

Here’s what this isn’t. This is NOT a service for those who need intensive therapy but can’t afford it. It is also not for people who need medication, professional care or mental health services from trained resources. If you’re looking for ways to cope with severe mental illness, then therapy probably IS the answer for you.

But if that’s not the case, and you’re dealing with everyday life issues — money problems, relationship boredom, sleep loss, job stress, the list goes ever on — then The Journal That Talks Back is right up your alley.

When journaling with a coach is the answer

What kinds of people can The Journal That Talks Back help? If it’s a problem that someone has experienced at some point in life… a responder can probably help. Nothing is too obscure or too small! Here’s a quick run-down of just some of the situations journaling with a responder can be applied to for some impressive results:

  1. Improving your sex life
  2. Healing a broken relationship with a loved one
  3. Helping you choose a college major
  4. Improving your career outlook
  5. Switching jobs if you are unsatisfied
  6. Giving you financial clarity
  7. Helping you de-stress and remove anxiety
  8. Helping you manage loneliness after the loss of a partner
  9. Keeping sane as a new parent
  10. Getting your grades up
  11. Making new life goals
  12. Gaining clarity and peace of mind after a screw-up
  13. Choosing next steps after getting fired
  14. Deciding if your marriage is right for you
  15. Understanding your strengths and weaknesses as a business leader

Did you get all that? That’s just a starter list. What’s more, your problems don’t have to neatly fall into one category. There are some people who sign up and want to talk about every aspect of their life — and we encourage that!

One week you may focus on your financial planning problems, and the next week you may want to talk about your relationship with your partner. The power is in your hands. You have the ability to choose what you want to talk about, when you want to talk about it, and how much you need to talk about it before moving onto other topics.

Starting to see the possibilities? We hope so. Think of this journal as less of a stand-in for therapy and more a way of life. We should always be thinking about how we can improve the various aspects of our lives so that we can live them as meaningfully as possible. Having a certified responder at your side to help you plan, think about and challenge your approach to life is what makes The Journal That Talks Back so unique.

Moving on from therapy

Ultimately, therapy just isn’t the answer for everyone. For whatever reason, it is not a one-size-fits-all glove. And that’s okay. If therapy isn’t the answer for you, maybe we are. Check out The Journal That Talks Back and see if it’s a better fit for you.

Important note:
We are a coaching company with expertise in lots of different areas like mental wellness, career, relationships, parenting and a whole lot more. While coaching in The Journal That Talks Back™ can help you to take a deeper look at the above topics, we recognize that there are times when other resources, like therapy and/or counselling, may make more sense. As such, we have begun to develop a Mental Health Directory with well over 800 resources and we are investing time and effort into really growing it. It is also developed in a super user friendly way (we hope) so that it's easier to navigate than say another government website. Click the button below to check out our Mental Health Directory.
